Research conducted by the Illuminant Clinical Team has been accepted to the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) 2023 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Our team conducted one of the most comprehensive systematic reviews to assess the clinical outcomes of 3D navigation compared to both 2D fluoroscopy and freehand surgical techniques. In a project that reviewed over 7,000 individual studies, we determined that 3D navigation yields significantly better surgical outcomes than 2D fluoroscopy and freehand techniques. However, there still exists room for improvement in decreasing operative time - given the long set-up process of current 3D navigation products - and reducing intraoperative radiation exposure to patients and surgeons alike. These are among the many pain points Illuminant plans to address with our navigational platform.
This research was spearheaded by our Chief Clinical Officer, Ikaasa Suri, who will be traveling to Washington, D.C. in September to present this work. This project also could not have been completed without the steadfast efforts of our incredible Research Associates (Bahie Ezzat, Sayahi Suthakaran, Juan Sebastian Arroyave Villada, and Daniel Kwon). We'd also like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Matthew Carr from Mount Sinai and Dr. Kurt Yager from Houston Methodist for their guidance, as well as Lily Martin from Mount Sinai for her support.
